Kent C. at the 2013 Fellowship of the Spirit

This talk from Kent C. in 2013 includes a very passionate and inspirational message of recovery. Here is a summary of some of the key points he discusses:

Quoting Dr. Bob 1950:

“Let’s never forget the simplicity of our program let’s not loose it up with Freudian complexes and things interesting to the scientific mind that have little to do with our actual work.”

From the Big Book:
“Remind the prospect that his recovery is not dependent on people it is dependent upon his relationship with God.”
Kent says:
“If I had the power to stop drinking on my own I’d never come to AA – why should I?
I establish and grow with that relationship (God) one day at a time not by memorizing, analyzing, or discussing. It’s done through living the 12:steps as outlined by the founders in the Big Book.
“Life giving / Life saving
God’s will not mine
He is in charge.”
“The first 11 steps give you back 10 percent of yourself. Step 12 gives you back the other 90.”
“If selfishness and self centeredness is the root problem then obviously unselfishness is the root of solution.”
Don’t remember what it’s like to be a newbie? Serve somebody.
Be a sponsor it’s the only job where you come in as a big shot and end up a servant.
Being a sponsor is a great thing – being sponsor-able is even better.
Sponsorship, steps, home group, and service. That’s the package.
“Meeting attendance is not Alcoholics Anonymous. Application of the program one day at a time is.”
Bill in the 12 and 12 said:
“The 12 steps are a set of principles spiritual in nature.”
“There are people out there that live by these principles and don’t expect a pat on the back!”
“I was so full of myself I couldn’t see you.
I looked outside to hide the problem of inside.
You can’t see what it’s doing to you until you’re set free of it.
I was as far away from God as you can get. Cold-hearted, cold-blooded, indifference.”
“Get right spiritually the mind and body will follow. I have a toolbox in my house and I’ve never seen a hammer or screwdriver walk across my floor and fix anything. The only valuable tool is if I pick it up and use it. The only value of these steps is if I apply them to my life.”
“I’ve never heard from an AA podium; It works if you know it!”
“This is a spiritual program and God doesn’t fail.”
