Overview
Recovery Speakers preserves and provides public access to historic audio recordings related to the Twelve-Step recovery movement. These recordings originate from a variety of sources, including legacy tape libraries, conference recording companies, and private donors.
Because many materials were created decades ago and documentation is sometimes incomplete, rights status may vary by item.
Recovery Speakers makes materials available in good faith for educational, historical, and recovery-support purposes.
Ownership of Physical vs. Intellectual Property
Recovery Speakers may own the physical carrier of a recording (reel-to-reel tape, cassette, digital file, etc.), but ownership of the physical object does not necessarily mean ownership of copyright.
Copyright may remain with:
-
The original speaker
-
The speaker’s estate
-
The conference or recording entity
-
A successor rights holder
When rights are known, we respect them. When rights are unclear, we rely on good-faith historical preservation standards.

Anonymity & Public Recordings
Recovery Speakers preserves recordings created at conferences, conventions, workshops, and other recovery events where individuals voluntarily shared their experiences before live audiences.
We recognize that anonymity is the spiritual foundation of Alcoholics Anonymous and a guiding tradition within other Twelve-Step fellowships.
While some recordings may include first names, last names, or identifying details as originally spoken, it is the intent of Recovery Speakers to respect the spirit and traditions of anonymity.
Users of this archive are expected to uphold and respect the anonymity traditions of AA and other Twelve-Step fellowships when listening to, referencing, or sharing material from this website.
Recovery Speakers does not knowingly publish confidential materials.
Good Faith Use & Fair Use
Many recordings document historically significant public talks given at conferences and conventions. Where appropriate, Recovery Speakers relies on principles of:
-
Educational use
-
Historical preservation
