“When I ended Step Six, one path representing self-will and self-reliance, coupled with all my character defects; the other path representing God’s Will and God Reliance, and promising a life of order, harmony and goodness if I would follow that path; I was conscious of my willingness to let God free me from my defects of character and I was ready to pray the Seventh Step Prayer from Page 76 of the Big Book.
“So, slowly and thoughtfully, I prayed: “My Creator.” . . . Pausing here to be conscious that I am addressing the Spirit that manifest the beginning of creation 13.7 billion years ago and Guiding, Creative Intelligence, Precise Laws, Order, Harmony and Unfolding Goodness in every aspect of all being . . “I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad.” . . . Pausing again to be conscious that every aspect of all being is God’s care and always has been; that my prayerful thought is an affirmation of what already is; ‘that in and of myself I am nothing, It is the Father within that does the work;’ and that ‘nothing is either good or bad but thinking makes it so.’ . . . “I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows.” . . . Pausing here to be conscious that I must rely on God to show me what defects stand between Him and I, and that I must be willing to take the path of God’s will and God reliance, with its unfolding goodness, knowing that this path will lead me further into humility and freedom from self-will and the wreckage of my past, and to then consciously release myself into the care of my my Creator. . .”Grant me strength, as I go out from here to do your bidding.” Pausing here to be conscious that God gives me the strength and knowledge to do His will and to fulfill my purpose in life as one aspect of His unfolding Creation. . .I say, “Amen.””
