“The fifth tradition is to the group what the Twelfth Step is to the individual. Many stories have been handed down through the years, and certainly there are different variations of the same story. A longtime member shared this story:
“We always went in twos when making a Twelve Step call. This particular day nobody was available to go except a new guy with only five days of sobriety. When we entered the drunk’s home, I said, “I’ll do the talking.” And talk I did, for at least an hour. Finally the drunk interrupted me and looked at the new man saying, “How long have you been sober?” The kid responded with, “Only five days.” The drunk looked back at him and said, “Please tell me- how’d you do it?””
